I wanted to privately rent out my local park movie theater and give back to my community inviting anyone who wants to come to see a film. this movie means a lot to me + was part of making and got the opportunity to be an extra on the set, the film I chose is BABYLON directed by Damien Chazelle, one of the themes of this film is society in change - Any resident can privately rent the theater out and show anything they want as long as you bring your own DVD, however I was told that I cannot show this specific film and made me feel suspicious + feel like I am being treated differently than anyone else who wants to rent the theatre, this is a powerful message I intercepted in my brain that is very interesting to have someone telling me I can’t show a certain movie and trying to ban me from sharing a masterpiece of cinema without any reason as to why. This is what Babylon is all about and inspires me to fight harder to get it shown and in my mind makes it even more valuable + inspires me to get even more involved with what’s going on in my city. - see below for my last post on this thread for my live statement to the Grosse Pointe Park city council regarding this
Grosse Pointe Park City Council Meeting 12/09 I am at the very end - making my statement Just after (2:48:10)
Update: edited short clip with my speech below- After my city council statement I met with the city manager and made arrangements to show the film - MGM art director Cedric Gibbons was intended to represent a “crusader” of the film industry.
